Decision by the Board of Commissioners

Based on the Review Report, the Institution’s SER and all additional documentation provided by the Institution and the Review Team, ECBE’s Board of Commissioners:

  • grants / extends the accreditation to the programme for a period of 5 years, or,
  • grants / extends accreditation to the programme for a shorter period, from 2 to 4 years, if some non-compliances with the standards are found; deadlines to eliminate these are given to the Institution, or,
  • does not grant accreditation to the programme if significant non-compliances with the standards have been identified, or,
  • does not extend the accreditation if significant non-compliances with the standards have been identified and insufficient  progress was made by the Institution during the period since the last accreditation.

After the expiry of the deadline referred to in the second indent of the first paragraph above, the ECBE shall again (second time) make an evaluation (site visit), on the basis of which it shall extend the accreditation to the study program for a period of 5 years, if no major deficiencies or inconsistencies in achieving standards have been identified. If these are identified, ECBE’s BoC:

  • shall extend the accreditation to the study program for a shorter period, which may not be longer than 4 years, and give the institution a deadline for their elimination; or
  • does not extend the accreditation to the study program if significant incompliance with the standards has been identified throughout the period since the last accreditation.

After the expiration of the deadline referred to in the preceding paragraph, the ECBE shall carry out an evaluation for the third time, on the basis of which it may:

  • extend the accreditation to the study program for a period of 5 years or
  • not reextend the accreditation, provided that significant incompliances have been identified throughout the period since the last accreditation.

The decision about accreditation, as taken by the BoC, is communicated to the ECBE Member – applicant with the “Decision letter” by the ECBE Director of Accreditation.
