In Memoriam of Marc Van Gastel
On March 30th, 2020, Prof. Dr. Marc Van Gastel passed away, suffering from extended heart problems.
Marc was the head of the Invest Department at Flanders Investment and Trade (Belgium). He was responsible for the attraction and development of foreign investments in the Northern region of Belgium - Flanders. He developed sustainable relationships with foreign companies interested in investing in Flanders and provided on-going assistance to companies locating here.
Marc has acquired a Master’s Degree in Science, a Master’s Degree in Government Policy, a Postgraduate Certification in Economics and a Postgraduate degree in Computer Science.
As part-time lecturer Marc has been teaching all his working life at several higher educational institutes: Vesalius College in Brussels, Antwerp Management School, the Universities of Hasselt, Leuven and Brussels, SYNTRA Antwerp, the Vlerick Management School and at our member institution United International Business School.
Marc was coopted by the ECBE Board of Directors, becoming the representative of industry, on November 6th, 2019. He was committed to helping ECBE, using his extended industrial network. We will remember him as a devoted, charming, intelligent and commited colleague. He was the example of a business contact upgraded with the status "friend".
We will miss him deeply.
